For the families of the old Third Ward, for those who came to help after Katrina, and all those who gave of themselves to build a better community only to have it forcibly taken from them, there is much more to this story than mere relocation of the Haus. It is the story of a community forbidden to rebuild and pressured to sell out so the City and State can say its residents relocated voluntarily and were not subjected to expropriation. It is also the story of a fatally-flawed historic preservation system in which studies of historic content and cultural impact are undertaken by contractors hired by project developers. Above all, it is a story of human sacrifice and cultural genocide.
