Looking Backward: Demolitions Proceed in the LSU Footprint

Yesterday, the building with the "Blues Bar" tiles at the corner of Palmyra and N. Roman was demolished.

I remember over a year ago when I heard a number of men playing music on the balcony.

Final Photos from Inside Outer Banks

On Friday night, Outer Banks was a hopping place.  I was invited down for a drink "BEFORE IT IS GONE - IT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO MEET AT THE OUTER BANKS FOR ONE LAST DRINK."

Good thing I went.

A New Neighbor

This vehicle appeared recently on the site of an old corner store and residence building that had been renovated in early 2010 prior to its demolition.

In the background, Outer Banks persists, still open in the evenings.

"Outer Banks Farewell!!!"

This sign appeared in the window at Outer Banks bar today - it's a bastion of heavy metal-ish music, if you can't tell.

Note the VA machinery approaching the building and its occupants, complete with atomic wrecking ball.  The artist even managed to work in one of the hanging plants out front.

"You know what this represents? This was home. This was family."

Platinum 3000, a bar at S. Galvez and Banks, moves out.  Last night, the establishment held a blowout bash to celebrate Halloween and the Saints victory.

Loyal patrons wrote their farewells on the walls - inside and out.  The bar has a new home planned at Banks and S. Pierce.

Once More to Outer Banks

I caught some of today's Saints game at Outer Banks, the bar at the heart of the VA Footprint.  It's the tall building in the center of the photo above.  A bottle of PBR goes for $1.25.

Outer Banks has always been a bit of a bare bones establishment, but a lively crew of about a dozen regulars was hooting and hollering as the Saints defeated the Panthers.  The two loudest patrons were at different ends of the bar.  A call-and-response style cheer went up after big plays, led by the leaders on the ends - "FIRST DOWN....SAINTS!"

The establishment's preference for the home team does not go unnoticed inside the bar...nor does the fake rooster that hangs upside down from the ceiling.  Or the chart that shows the phases of the moon.

The bar manager says she hopes to hang on until the end of the month.  After that, and an interlude of some period of time, she hopes to re-open elsewhere outside the Footprint.

Inside the Footprint Last Evening #7

Tom Dutel drives a moving truck slowly around the corner and away from his business at N. Rocheblave and Banks.  In the background, Outer Banks bar, the tall building, has been expropriated and recently received an eviction notice.  It's nevertheless continued as a lively place to catch a Saints game.
