Built to Last

Construction equipment slumbers in the afternoon heat in the LSU Footprint.  At right, the 1879 McDonogh No. 11 School remains in place.  It is unclear when or if the building will ultimately be moved.  At center, the 1892 St. Joseph's Church, subject of a successful earlier preservation fight, stands with its downriver facade shaded.  On the far left, the central massif of the late 1930s Charity Hospital rises out of the CBD.  The building's fate remains unclear.

And then there were none

The last of the three sister camelbacks on Cleveland Avenue fell this morning.

Here's an odd shot of the side elevation of that last camelback taken earlier this week (as it was being salvaged).  The strange warped look was not an edit of any kind:

Strange Views

Previously unseen vistas are emerging as the LSU Footprint is taken down.

House moving is still not entirely off the table, and a meeting on the effort is apparently slated for Wednesday.

Way Down

Ellgee Uniforms, one of several businesses still operating along Tulane Avenue in the LSU Footprint, stands in the shadow of St. Joseph's Church - a survivor of an earlier preservation battle.

Off in the background, the blue and silver of the new Cancer Research facility rises along I-10.

A Quiet Afternoon

From what I saw, there wasn't much activity inside the VA Footprint earlier this afternoon, aside from utilities work on the lakeside end and streetwork on S. Galvez on the riverside end.

Work was also stopped down at a fenced lot way down in the LSU Footprint where a few workers in vests have been doing light work with a bobcat at various points in the past few days.
